Who We Are

The Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports exists to ensure that hunting and the shooting sports remain a vibrant part of America’s outdoor heritage. Since its inception, the Council has served as the national leader in uniting state fish and wildlife agencies, conservation organizations, and industry partners around a shared purpose: sustaining the traditions that help define our outdoor culture while driving the conservation funding model that supports wildlife and wild places. Through research, training, national coordination, and strategic Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) leadership, the Council provides the vision and structure needed to strengthen participation across the country.

At the core of this mission is the proven R3 model. These efforts are essential for bringing new participants into the field, keeping current enthusiasts engaged, and reconnecting those who have drifted away from hunting or shooting activities.

The Council’s work is grounded in collaboration and backed by data. Through national research initiatives, the National R3 Clearinghouse, shared R3 positions with state agencies, and the annual National R3 Symposium, the Council coordinates a strong community of R3 professionals across the country. These partners rely on the Council’s leadership to develop educational resources, deliver high-quality workshops, and share best practices that address changing cultural attitudes, modern barriers to participation, and evolving conservation needs. This unified approach strengthens the entire conservation system and ensures that investments in R3 have a tangible, lasting impact.

Because hunters and shooters generate critical revenue through licenses, permits, and excise taxes, boosting participation directly strengthens the wildlife management systems that benefit all Americans.
