“The Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports is working to grow the number of Americans that are hunting and fishing. In 1980, there were 17.5 million hunters. Today, it is between 11 and 12 million. Programs Director Cyrus Baird says that it is all about mentoring. A person can take up fishing on their own, but a hunter needs someone to show them the ropes. A mentor must devote the time and be patient in order to bring new hunters into the fold. Cyrus says that the worst day he had hunting was better than any app he downloaded on his smartphone.”
